When we moved into our house back in August I could not figure out what to do with this little niche. It is downstairs in a hallway between the half bathroom, the hall closet, and my office. We always joked that we needed a large trophy or a President's bust to put here. You know, something large to fill the space. I had briefly thought about adding shelves but wasn't sure how easy it would be since there is lots of odd angles.
I mentioned to Matt a few weeks ago about how I thought I really wanted shelves here and asked if he thought he could do them. He loves a good challenge (especially if it involves using his tools) so he was in!
All we had to buy for this project was a 1x12 and a 1x2. Well that and an air compressor, nail gun and nails which Matt got with some Christmas money and will be used for so many more projects. We already had the stain and sand paper on hand. We splurged for some wood that was a little bit better quality than your normal wood. We used select pine. Total spent on wood was about $42.
It took Matt a few days after work to get the shelves cut and installed (while Piper and I enjoyed a little Gilmore Girls) and it took me a few days to figure out what to put on them and style them. So total time was a little less than a week.
Not much time or money for what I think is a huge difference!
Please ignore our terrible tile, light fixture, and gold door knobs. These are all on our long list of things to change!
Onto the next project!
